Lake Kaniere is a quiet peaceful piece of paradise inland from Hokitika and in an ideal situation for a stay at the end of Day Two of the West Coast Rail trail Cycle Ride.
By car it is a 20 minute drive from Hokitika to a jewel of a lake with mountain backdrop. It is an ideal place for both recreation and for relaxation.
Lake Kaniere Homestay overlooks the northern shore of the Lake, not 50 meters away. The house is set in native bush on a quiet no exit street with great views of the lake and very little traffic.
Grant and Laura Hinchliff own the Lake Kaniere Homestay and open up their home to show people some warm West Coast Hospitality.

This 3 storey home has two lounges, full shared kitchen, bathroom,laundry, dining room and deck with BBQ facilities. There is internet and TV. This is a self cater property so you'll need to bring food and cook for yourself or we can organise some groceries for you but contact us about this forst.

How to get to this Paradise from Kumara/Cowboy Paradise/Milltown: (13.5Km)
Down the zig zag, over the Arahura Bridge,( This river is unique in NZ, it is owned by Maori, not the crown.) along the flat to Johnson Creek (about half way), then
up the hill (the block of concrete on your right was were the Mill was, [operations stopped about 1952]) Granite Creek is almost the top of Pyramid Hill,just over 1 km to the sealed Lake Kaniere road where you hang a right to the bridge over the lake out flow (Kaniere River) turn Left, you are at The Landing, turn right on to Sunny Bight Road (The Lake is on your left) number 70 is what you are looking for and is 700 meters over two small hills[ the first speed bump is a bit of a non event, the second is more effective. the Third? You have gone too far.]
Sheets pillow cases towels and face cloths are supplied.
As well as hosting cyclists, Grant, ( Lake Kaniere Homestay Manager ) has a full time job with Westland Milk Products. He may not be at home to make you that welcoming cuppa tea when you arrive.
The back door ( ground level ) will be unlocked. Go in through the laundry turn hard left, mount the stairs, make a nice hot cuppa, relax. enjoy a shower. There will be a note on the table for you.
Additional Information
Great area for hikes on local tracks. There is a mountain biking trail and the cycle path nearby. Good water sport location with kayak to use on the Lake. You need to bring your own groceries is this is a self cater property. If you are doing the Cycle Trail you can have groceries delivered with your luggage shuttle

Prices can change without notice up until the time we have confirmed a date with you AND you have paid in full.
Cancellations
Cancellations outside of 60 days prior to your booked date will receive a 90% refund
Cancellations for any reason between 60 day and 30 days prior to your booked date will receive a 50% refund.
Cancellations for any reason inside if 30 days prior to your booked date will not receive any refund.
