Welcome to Adventure Wanaka Hostel.
Catering to independent travellers from around the world we offer mostly shared room accommodation and run in-house activities 7 nights a week to make it easy to meet fellow explorers from all around the world. We are a small-medium sized hostel with a maximum capacity of about 70 people - the perfect number for keeping a family atmosphere, which is still fun and vibrant. Adventure Wanaka (AW) is the most centrally located accommodation in town, you are just moments from Wanaka town centre and 1 minute walk from Lake Wanaka beach. At night we guarantee you'll sleep soundly as there are no bars directly by us.
Through 2022-23 we have spent over a million dollars completely renovating this amazing location and this Summer 2023 we are ready to host you! Our spacious and well designed rooms feature custom made hand-built timber bunks that sport ultra comfortable innerspring mattresses. You'll have the luxury of two pillows with freshly laundered linen all made up and are ready to hop straight into. Each bunk also includes USB charging ports & electrical outlets, a reading light, ample shelving, a secure under-bed storage locker and privacy curtains. Our rooms also include A/C, heat pump, free high-speed wifi and towels are included as standard!
AW's outdoor spaces are the best in town, with a grand courtyard and two deck areas AW is a great place to enjoy a drink in the sun. The guest lounge, chill out room and dining areas are super spacious for such a small hostel. This allows plenty of room for guests to chill out, work nomadically or meet new friends. In our kitchen, you'll be cooking up a feast where you'll find it superbly equipped featuring everything from crockpot's and crockery to salad knives and spices!
Our wonderfully friendly staff, whom all live on-site with our Guests, can help you plan your activities and time in Wanaka. We have separate storage/locker rooms with one for luggage of those guests arriving and departing, and another for secure bicycle parking and ski & snowboard storage. AW also offers loads of free stuff and even a simple laundry service.
Operated by a well-travelled owner, we draw on experience from having collected the best ideas from hostels in dozens of different countries and putting them all in the one place amazing place! We can't wait to host your Wanaka Adventure.

Standard Policies
As we are a small hostel, our reception is open from 8.30am to 7.30pm.
We operate with maximum stay policies.
Summer season - 10-night stay in any 30 day period.
Winter season - 28-nights total across the Ski season.
Late check-ins are not possible without prior notice. So, if you will arrive after 7.30pm, please email or call us 2-3 days before you arrive, and we will provide instructions on how to self-check-in.
Cancellations must be made more than 48 hours prior to the day of arrival. Cancellations made within 48 hours from the date of arrival will incur additional charges equivalent to the first night's accommodation. No Shows will be charged the first nights accommodation.
Check-in is available after 8.30am, however please note that beds/rooms will not be ready until after 2pm. We have storage facilities for the interim and common areas are free for use.
We do not allow minors under the age of 17 in shared rooms, with or without guardians. Families are welcome, but would be required to book an entire room.
Please note that we cannot always guarantee that guests from a group booking will be in the same room or any booking will be in the same room for the duration of the stay, though we will always try our best!

Additional Information
We are a responsible BYO alcohol hostel, suitable for mature and responsible for travellers.
Children and Guests under the age of 18 are not permitted to stay or reserved beds in shared/mixed dormitories, and must be booked into a privately booked room or dormitory with a responsible adult (aged 18+)
Payment Policy
All payments are to be made on arrival at the Hostel, or at the beginning of any booking that is an extension of your current stay at the hostel.
Credit/debit card details are collected at booking as an insurance for the hostel against late cancellations and no-shows. Our policies for such are outlined in Cancellation policy below.
Cancellation Policy
Reservations not cancelled 48 hours prior to 2pm (check-in time) on the scheduled arrival date will be subject to charges for one night’s accommodation. Failure to arrive for the first night will see the cancellation of the entire booking.
Child Policy
Children or guests, aged 18 and under are not permitted in shared rooms. Either all 4 or 6 beds must be booked out in a shared room for us to host persons aged under 18. Please contact us prior to booking.
Check In Policy
- Check-in
Check-in starts at 2pm, guests may arrive earlier and make use of the hostel facilities and securely store any luggage.
Late check-ins (for guests arriving after 7:30pm) can be arranged with prior notice. Please contact us in advance if you will arrive outside these times.
- Maximum length of stay
Adventure Hostels operate a maximum length of stay for Summer and Winter seasons.
During Summer, there is a maximum 10-night stay for solo travellers
During Winter, there is a maximum 21-night stay for solo travellers, 10-nights for groups of 2+ pax
There must then be a 20 night break/gap between any subsequent or future reservations at the same Adventure Hostel. We reserve the right to cancel or refuse service to any person making additional bookings within the 20 night break period, or persons who attempt to circumvent our maximum stay policy
- Beds and Room Allocation
Adventure Hostel is unable to guarantee guests from a group booking (2+ persons) will be allocated into the same room, as this is dependent on current availability on the date you make your booking. Priority is given to the bookings made earliest.
Nor can we guarantee that any booking will be in the same room for the duration of the stay, though we will always try our best as it makes our job far easier. In the event you may need to shift rooms we will make your stay as smooth and effortless as possible.
Adventure Hostel does not allocate bunks and operates a first in first choice policy, therefore we are unable to offer any preferred choice between upper or lower bunks.
All of our bunks include bed linens, freshly laundered, made-up and ready for you to hop straight into. Towels are also included as standard. Please note, that sleeping bags and external blankets are not permitted to be used for hygiene purposes. All of our rooms feature heat pumps & A/C however, if required, we can provide additional blankets free of charge.
- Groups
We are a small hostel and therefore do not allow groups of more than 6 people. Anyone found to be making multiple bookings to attempt having more than 6 people will have their booking cancelled or be turned away at check-in.
