Self-Catered Bunk — Single Bunk

Single bunk beds in either Broken River or White Star Lodges. Broken River Lodge has two large bunkrooms with a large separate communal kitchen and dining/living space. White Star Lodge is our older lodge, in the style of a mountain hut with bunks lining the walls of a communal kitchen/living space. Both have separate bathrooms with shower and toilets. Meals are available at Lyndon Lodge on request, please enquire with staff, and lunches can be purchased at our day lodge.

Bed and use of lodge facilities

Pillow provided. Bring your own sleeping bag and pillowcase.

Guests will be accommodated in bunk room style accommodation either Broken River Lodge or White Star Chalet. Both lodges offer full kitchen facilities for you to cook your own meals. Please note that children under 5 years of age cannot stay in White Star Lodge, please contact Broken River staff if you wish to book for a family with children under five years of age. Bookings DO NOT include food. Lunches are available for purchase at our Day Lodge. Linen/sleeping bags are required.

Broken River Lodge offers shared bunk-style accommodation and bathroom facilities, a modern kitchen, communal living area and drying rooms.

White Star Chalet is our smallest lodge offering no-frills self catered accommodation. It is the first building the Club constructed in the ski area, from materials carried up the mountain on members' backs. Both White Star and Broken River Lodges are located on the bush-line, a 10 minute walk to the first ski tow.

You will enjoy the conviviality and atmosphere of our oldest and dearest lodges, making friends quickly in the common room as you experience a traditional communal alpine lifestyle. Electric heating and hot showers will keep you in touch with the 21st century!

Property Facilities

The self-catered nightly rate includes bed and use of the kitchen and other facilities. It is necessary for you to bring your own dinner and breakfast food or, for a cost equal to the difference in accommodation rates, meals can be provided in Lyndon Lodge.

You will be rostered on one light duty each day. Duties will not cut into your skiing time, and are a great way to get to know your fellow guests.

Remember to bring your sleeping bag and towel!

General Room Facilities

Broken River Lodge offers shared bunk-style accommodation and bathroom facilities, a modern kitchen, communal living area and drying rooms.

In White Star Lodge, 14 bunks are spread around the main room which also contains a kitchen and serves as the common room by day.

The separate bathroom and shower facilities are shared with other guests. It is necessary for you to bring your own towel and personal toiletries.

Car Parking

Hanomag carpark is located at the base of the Tyndall Tramway which will take you and your gear directly to the Accommodation & Ticket Office.

Directions to Property

To reach the Broken River Ski Area, you drive for 1.5 hours west of Christchurch on State Highway 73. The Access road to the ski area is clearly sign posted on your left, approximately 8km past Castle Hill Village, and will take you the 6km up to Hanomag Carpark.

Snow chains may be required and should always be carried. Please drive to the conditions, and check our website for public transport options.

Additional Information

Pies, chips, pizza and a range of snack food and beverages (including our very own BR Lager!) can be purchased from our Day Lodge. We accept Cash, EFTPOS, Visa and Mastercard.

You are also welcome to bring your lunch supplies and use the kitchen facilities and BBQ located at Palmer Lodge. Please note however, there are no rubbish facilities or fridges available for guest use on the field.

Payment Policy

All bookings are received on request. Once we have processed your request, we will be in touch with an unofficial receipt to review the details, and will require credit card details to secure your final booking.

No bookings can be confirmed until paid in full. We process all payments manually and will email you once the payment has been made.

Please note discounts are available to CSA members. Please make a note on your booking, and we can provide additional information.

Cancellation Policy

Accommodation Cancellation and Refund Policy

1. When an accommodation or ski package is cancelled by Broken River Ski Club, a full refund will be given.

2. When an accommodation or ski package is cancelled by guests, admin and cancellation fees will be applied as per below:

2a. An administration fee of $50 (or the amount of the applicable refund if less than $50) will be deducted from the amount of any refund payable.

2b. Fees upon cancellation of a booking will apply to a refund as follows:
- Cancellation 28 days or more prior to the booking: 90% refund less admin fee.
- Cancellation between 27 days and 11 days prior to the booking: 50% refund less admin fee.
- Cancellation within 10 days of commencement date (or during the booking): no refund will be given.

3. Any refund payable will be paid by the Club Treasurer and may not be paid by the ski area or by ski area staff.

These conditions apply to all member and non-member bookings.

The Broken River Ski Club Committee reserves the right to reduce or waive cancellation fees in exceptional circumstances in its discretion.

Child Policy

Please note that all children and youth under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times during their stay on the hill.

Children and infants under the age of 5 are unable to stay in our Lodges without prior approval/arrangement. Please email for more information.

Children and youths under 18 years old at the beginning of the calendar year are charged at the applicable youth rate.

Check In Policy

Guests are required to check-out on the day of their departure at 9am.

Check-in time is from 3:30pm to 5:00pm daily.

If you plan to ski during the day of your arrival or departure, we are able to store your gear in one of our Lodges.
