The private accommodation fee is a flat rate of $360 for up to 4 guests. The fee covers your entire trip whether you choose to spend 1, 2, 3 or 4 nights on the trail (it is not per night).
 
Sleepouts are seasonally available, from the 1st of September to the 31st of May.
 
Sleepouts contain two double mattresses. They do not have their own heat sources and do not include any cooking facilities, but users can use the communal facilities in the main hut. Main hut facilities include: A rain-fed water supply (off the hut roof), internal sink, cutlery, crockery, cooking pots, gas cook tops, a frying pan, kettle and a coffee plunger, communal living area, wood stove, outside composting toilet, bike storage and a bike repair station.

In the North West corner of the South Island of New Zealand a ghost has awakened. A long-forgotten gold miners’ road has been revived as a mountain biking and tramping trail – connecting the old dray road in the Lyell (Upper Buller Gorge) to the mighty Mokihinui River in the north. The 85km-long Old Ghost Road traverses majestic native forest, open tussock tops, river flats and forgotten valleys.

Property Facilities

Accommodation on the Old Ghost Road consists of comfortable, well insulated backcountry huts and rustic summer sleepouts for those looking for some privacy.

Carparking is available at both the Lyell and Seddonville trail heads.

Cancellation Policy















Cancellation and Amendments:
To make any changes to your booking, please email info@oldghostroad.org.nz with your booking reference number, name and a clear description of what change(s) you wish to make. Cancellation and/or amendment requests must be made by the person who made the initial booking.
Any additional cost resulting from amendments or additions to bookings will be charged to the credit card supplied with the initial booking – please confirm
that this is your preferred method of payment or if you would like to pay another way.
Refunds will be paid back to the credit/debit card that made the initial payment, or, if that is no longer possible, to the bank account of the person who held that credit/debit card. Refunds cannot be paid to any other person.






Cancellations (whether in part or full)





















Cancellations more than 3 months prior to start date will incur a $20 administrative fee or a fee equal to 20% of the cancelled portion, whichever is the lesser.
Cancellations between 3 months and 21 days prior to start date will incur a cancellation fee equal to 20% of the cancelled portion.
Cancellations between 21 days and 72 hours prior to 12 noon on start date will incur a cancellation fee equal to 50% of the cancelled portion.
Cancellations less than 72 hours prior to 12pm on your arrival date (i.e. the start of your trip), or at any point following, are ineligible for any refund (i.e. the booking will be non-refundable).







Amendments (e.g. date changes)





















Amendments made more than 21 days prior to your start date will incur no fee.
Amendments made between 21 days and 72 hours prior to your start date will incur a non-refundable fee of $30.00.
Amendments made less than 72 hours prior to 12 noon on your start date will incur a non-refundable fee of $50.00.
Bookings cannot be amended after 12 noon on your start date.












Unforeseen Events:
Access and use of the trail is subject to the state of the trail. Similarly, access to and use of facilities/structures along the trail (including accommodation) is subject to the state of the facilities/structures and subject to the state of the trail giving access to the facilities/structures. It is possible something may occur that, in our discretion, prevents you from using the trail or any facilities/structures on the trail (including accommodation), for example (without limitation), occurrence of weather or other forces of nature including fire or earthquake, action or inaction by any government agency, or significant damage or loss of any track section(s) or facility/structure (including accommodation) (Unforeseen Event)
If, in our discretion, an Unforeseen Event occurs, you acknowledge that you will not have access and use of the affected trail and/or facilities/structures (including accommodation) and that we will have to cancel any bookings you have made. In the case of an Unforeseen Event, our standard cancellation policies will not apply in these circumstances and you will not be entitled to any refund. We will allow you to transfer any booking you have made to another date(s) when the Unforeseen Event no longer exists and accommodation availability allows.











Pricing:
Where your booking moves into a higher rate season (e.g. your booking moves out of the discounted winter period), the uplift will be payable. Where an amendment transfers your booking into a lower rate season, no refund will apply.
Prices are subject to change. Where a price lesser than you paid becomes available, no refund or post-purchase price adjustment will apply to your existing booking.







Safety and Planning:
You understand and acknowledge that The Old Ghost Road traverses remote and rugged terrain and is exposed to a range of hazards. You accept that sound planning and preparation on your part is critical to a safe and enjoyable experience (for yourself and any others you may be completing this booking for). You confirm that you have/will review the resources available (as well as undertake your own planning) to help identify hazards before your trip and ensure you have appropriate plans and effective equipment/clothing/contingencies in place to address hazards. Furthermore, you understand that significant natural events may occur whilst you are on the trail (including but not limited to major weather and/or seismic events) that may prevent or inhibit your safe exit along the trail and that of any emergency services endeavouring to assist your evacuation. You understand and accept that your presence on the trail will be known (via booking information) and that authorities will exercise best endeavours to support your safe evacuation, however the ability and responsiveness of authorities to do so will be entirely dependent on the scale of the event causing the issue and the demand on their time and resources with other priorities, and that you need to be prepared to wait for an unspecified length of time for any such assistance.
